Ely, Nevada is located in White Pine County and is approximately 240 miles north of Las Vegas. The entire county has a population of around 10,000 with around 7,000 in Ely and the remainder in the surrounding areas. Ely has its origins as a mining town. The community has had its economic ups and downs over the years as a direct result of the prospering, or lack thereof, of the local mining industry. Ely is at the intersection of Highway 93, 6, and 50, highway “50” given the name “the loneliest highway in America”. At an elevation of over 6,300 ft, the summers in Ely are very moderate with average highs in July and August of around 85 degrees. Ely has been “discovered” as of late as a great place to live, either full-time or as a seasonal getaway. Ely’s greatest attraction for visitors or residents may not be in town at all, but in the new Great Basin National Park that is 60 miles to the south and east. Additional outdoor recreational opportunities include hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, exploring, golf and cross-country skiing. Cave Lake State Park, the above center picture, is 14 miles from the center of town. Ely is 227 driving miles from Salt Lake City, Utah and 300 miles from Reno, Nevada.

Ely Nevada Real Estate opportunities vary. Central Ely has many homes dating from the early 1900’s to the mid-1900’s. Outside of town offers many opportunities to purchase homes on acreage or to purchase land and build your own home. Many homes and land parcels offer spectacular views of the Steptoe Valley as well as views of the surrounding mountains. Prices in the area are very moderate, especially compared to the Las Vegas Valley. Note that the above-left photo is of the Hotel Nevada in downtown Ely. This was the tallest building in the State from 1929 to 1948. It is fully restored and a great place to stay if you visit. Almost all services are available in the Ely area including its own 40 bed hospital with 24-hour emergency room.

I have spent quite a bit of time in Ely and the experience has been great with most everyone I met being very friendly. I have heard Ely described as a town with “traditional American values” and that is an assessment with which I would concur. I all this sounds appealing, Ely Nevada Real Estate could be of interest to you
